Barbara (Kiemle) Horner Autobiography
I am Barbara Kiemle Horner, born and raised in Toledo, Ohio in a wonderful loving family. Grandmother Kiemle, nee Matilda Mackus, was born on a ship coming from Germany to the USA on October 18, 1867. Grandfather Jakob Friedrich Kiemle came to America when he was 19 years old. He often spoke of his happy family and of growing up on the Neckar River in Kleinsachsenheim. I wondered, "Why did he leave Germany?" In 1971 I went to Germany with my son Brian to find out! I connected with Horst Kiemle in Neuried and Inge Schollenberger in Sachsenheim and we have been corresponding ever since. It has been a great pleasure for me to know more about my roots.
After college and working as a flight attendant on American Airlines, I married John Horner in 1955. We lived in St. Louis, Missouri; Charlotte, North Carolina; Tampa, Florida; and now Dallas, Texas. Our three children are: Laura, John and Brian and I have four grandchildren. My husband passed away in 1997.
I taught school for a while and now spend my time with my granddaughters, friends, book club, bible study, travel and exercise class. I would be happy to correspond with any relatives and think a Reunion would be lots of fun!
